Acceptable Use Policy

Stele is operated by Akash T, a sole proprietor based in India ("Stele", "we", "us"). This policy explains what Stele is for and where the line is. It forms part of our Terms of Service and sits alongside our Copyright Policy. Breaking it can cost you your account.

What Stele is for

Stele is a personal reference library. You capture parts of web pages you find worth keeping, you keep them somewhere you can search and revisit, and you study how they were built. That is the whole intended use: reference, study and your own subsequent work.

Captures are private by default

Every capture is private to the account that made it. Libraries are not public, are not indexed by search engines, and are not browsable by other users. Where a plan offers shared spaces, sharing is something you switch on deliberately for people you name, and the same rules below apply to anything you share.

Redistribution is not permitted

A capture contains someone else's work. Keeping it for reference is one thing; passing it on as though it were yours is another. You may not use Stele to republish, resell, redistribute or otherwise make available another party's markup, styles, assets, fonts, images or copy, whether directly or through generated code. Web fonts in particular are licensed separately by their foundries, and a licence to view a font on one site is not a licence to ship it on another.

Attribution is kept, not removed

Every capture is stored with the URL it came from, the domain, the site icon and the page title, and where the page declares them, the author, the publication date and the canonical URL. You can always see whose work a reference is and return to the original. Removing or misrepresenting that provenance in order to pass someone else's work off as your own is a breach of this policy.

You are responsible for what you capture

You must have the right to capture and store what you save, and to do whatever you do next with it. Code generated from a capture is a starting point for your own work, not a clearance to use the original. If you are unsure whether a use is permitted, assume it is not and ask the rights holder.

Prohibited uses

You may not use Stele to:

• capture, store or publish content you do not have the right to use;
• infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity or other rights of anyone else;
• build a product, template, theme or asset pack out of other people's work and sell or give it away;
• capture pages behind someone else's authentication in breach of that site's terms, or harvest personal data;
• upload or distribute unlawful, malicious or deliberately harmful material;
• capture material that is sexual content involving minors, that incites violence, or that is otherwise illegal where you or we are;
• work around plan limits, quotas, access controls or authentication;
• run automated bulk collection against a site, or interfere with the availability, security or integrity of Stele or of any site you capture from.

Reporting a problem

If you believe something stored on Stele breaks this policy, write to legal@stele.so. Copyright reports have their own route and their own required contents, set out in our Copyright Policy.

Enforcement

We investigate reports we receive and act on what we find. Depending on how serious it is we may remove material, restrict a feature, suspend an account or terminate it, and where the law requires it we report to the authorities. We tell the account holder what we did and why unless the law stops us. Termination for a breach of this policy is not refunded.
